Track Review: “Clouds” – Deep Time

Preceding the release of their sophomore effort as a duo, and debut under the moniker Deep Time (formerly Yellow Fever), the group’s label Hardly Art has made one track available for download. “Clouds” will be the fourth track on the nine-song, self-titled album to be released in July. Jennifer Moore’s penchant for infectious, sing-songy vocals waste no time, entering the mix six seconds after the song’s inception, backed by up-tempo meandering bass notes and clangy guitars. The song shifts to a breakdown and what sounds suspiciously like multi-tracked vocals—the effect is fantastic. The remaining two minutes feature several more distinct changes, including an extended drum build behind simultaneous vocal lines that precedes a full-on stop, before the mix kicks back in. Pop perfect. Get hooked.
