The literary world has lost another great today, Maurice Sendak died from complications of a stroke at age 83. His classic children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are, became an ever-lasting and award winning favorite. Other notable mentions include In the Night Kitchen and Seven Little Monsters. In a 2003 interview with NPR, Sendak said, “I have nothing now but praise for my life. I’m not unhappy. I cry a lot because I miss people. They die and I can’t stop them. They leave me and I love them more… There are so many beautiful things in the world I will have to leave when I die, but I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready.” Sendak will undoubtedly be missed.
