Video: Bonnie “Prince” Billy – “I See a Darkness”

Drag City released a new video yesterday in support of a new Bonnie “Prince” Billy EP being released this summer. The EP, titled “Now Here’s My Plan,” will feature six new versions of classic Billy songs. The first video is for I See a Darkness’ (1999)  title track. This black-and-white Ben Berman-directed video employs a dapper Will Oldham merrily strolling through the city streets, visiting the cemetery, and having drinks at the pub, while singing a more upbeat version of “I See a Darkness”. But that doesn’t sound weird enough for a Bonnie “Prince” Billy video does it? Of course not! Oldham and his backing band wander the city of Glasgow with goggling eyeballs that make their faces seem distorted and slightly terrifying- it’s all in a day’s work, y’all!
