Ponderosa has announced that their new album will be called Pool Party and will see release on July 31st of this year. So far, two cuts from the album have been made available. The first single, “Navajo,” premiered via Paste Magazine yesterday. The track’s production is huge with background loops, reverbed vocals and soaring guitars. The chorus refrain is shimmering and happy, as lead singer Kalen Nash shouts, “Everything is better in the dark.” To give it a listen, you’ll actually have to head over to the band’s page here: http://www.ponderosamusic.com/
Secondarily, the band is offering an mp3 download if you supply your email address. “Black Hill Smoke” shares similarities such as rich production and subtle backdrop elements. Otherwise, it is vastly divergent—Nash’s twangy vocals are much slower and clearer and the instrumentation is more sparse and folk oriented. The track had been previously available on the 2012 New West Records Sampler. The wavering guitars that lay behind Nash’s crooning are great, and the track’s production is flawless.
