Yeasayer’s new song “Longevity” is psychedelic and dub-influenced as it plods along with a pounding beat. The song is accompanied by an equally trippy video. Stop-and-go synth notes open the song before it builds, eventually exploding for the chorus that flows into the dubbiest potion of the song. The musical pause before the chorus that lays bare the songs high range vocals is well executed. When you think the song is going back to the dub beat, the band instead introduces strings. Fans may be equally surprised and excited by the new Yeasayer, but what’s for sure is that a more full picture will be revealed when the band releases Fragrant World on August 20th.
