Lithuanian-born Clara Rockmore was a child prodigy on the violin but health problems forced her to abandon playing as a teen. It wasn’t long after, however, that she discovered a new instrument: the theremin. Rockmore has since become the world’s most celebrated theremin player. The musician’s knowledge of the theremin and close friendship with it’s creator, Léon Theremin, enabled her to make important contributions to the development of the instrument.
