“How It Went Down” takes its time, allows it slow, careful tempo to unfurl the delicate sparseness of scattered piano notes. Even after it gets to the point, it doesn’t have to resolve itself right away. In general, I’m the most avid proponent of the two minute pop song you’ll find, so there’s a point where I succumb to being along for the almost five minute ride of the track. But the song doesn’t overstate its case, making its point through subtlety. “How It Went Down,” driven by the vocals of Nona Marie Invie, is a relaxed and easy song that recalls contemporary artists such as Laura Marling or a less quirky Regina Spektor. The song will be on their forthcoming LP, Who Needs Who, out October 2nd on Supply and Demand. Listen below.
