Video: The Mountain Goats – “Cry for Judas”

John Darnielle weaves emotionally complex, vivid scenes in short, rapid fragments of beautiful lyricism. So, it makes sense that the same discriptors could be applied to the Mountain Goats’ new Carlo Mirabella-Davis directed video for “Cry for Judas” from the  outstanding new album Transcendental Youth. It also makes sense that a book about devil-magic, a secret ceremony, bleeding, and death feature prominently in the video. A Mountain Goats song takes a while to unravel sometimes, and after two viewings, I’m still working on all the pieces of the video for “Cry for Judas.” However, its mysteries are as much a part of its beauty as its grounding realities and vivid imagery. Watch above.
