Sufjan Stevens Releases New Christmas Album, Plays Emo’s December 1st

Having already released a five EP set of Christmas songs several years ago, Sufjan Stevens is up to it again, this time releasing volumes 6-10 of the Songs for Christmas series. It seems this is taking precedence over Stevens’ ambitious states project. Either way, this prolific songwriter, continues to churn out thematically linked, conceptually rich material. Each EP has its own title and unique cover art. The collection is available in a limited edition vinyl box set that forced my significant other to confiscate my credit card until they are sold out (which will be soon) and on CD.

Stevens will play Emo’s East on December 1st, marking one of the shows we will most anticipate this year. Tickets for that show, officially billed as the “The Surfjohn Stevens Christmas Sing-A-Long Seasonal Affective Disorder Yuletide Disaster Pageant On Ice ft. SUFJAN STEVENS” are on sale this morning at 10AM while supplies last and can be purchased here.

Below you can hear the over-twelve-minute, epic closer “Christmas Unicorn.”
