Divine Fits Halloween Show at Stubb’s

Britt Daniel and Dan Boeckner have something special with Divine Fits. The pair, along with Sam Brown of New Bomb Turks have formed an indie supergroup that’s rapidly gaining notoriety. As postively as their debut album, A Thing Called Divine Fits, was received, the live show trumps it. This is, in large part, due to Boeckner’s frenetic on-stage energy balanced by Daniel’s cool-as-can-be demeanor.

The band’s set Wednesday consisted of their newest hits, which includes “My Love as Real,” as well as some unexpected tunes, like a cover of Frank Ocean’s “Lost.” The upbeat, party vibe worked perfectly for a Halloween evening that included a Dracula costume contest. Boeckner took the stage before his bandmates to announce the winner, telling us that Britt insisted he judge the contest, “because [he] look[s] the most like Dracula.”

Side projects are often tenuous terrain, but from the looks, and more importantly the sound, of it, Divine Fits is here to stay. And that’s a divine thing.
