Youth Lagoon, aka Trevor Powers, has announced a new full-length; Wondrous Bughouse is out on March 5 via Fat Possum. “Dropla” is the first single from that album. I think I’m going to have to be the one to say it, because from everything I’ve read about the track so far, no one seems shocked. This track is instrumentally enormous compared to the sparse and beautiful debut from the Idaho native. However, that makes it no less cathartically heartrending. Even though the track begins robustly and remains so (mostly), it still reaches a climactic crescendo and features Powers repetitively chanting a hopeful and life-affirming refrain: “You’ll never die/you’ll never die.” “Dropla” is an outstanding track. We’re on pins and needles for the LP.
