MS MR is one of those interesting cases: a band that suddenly pops up out of nowhere (it seems) with impressive sounds and widespread recognition. Often, these bands are fueled by an enormous investment, and the actual quality of the tunes is a secondary factor. However, two recent cases have proven to be exceptions to the rule by churning out a good amount of quality music backed by artistically rich videos and design. One is recent and inexperienced Columbia signee Wild Belle and the other is virtually unknown Columbia signee MS MR. Alright, you may be a major, but we kinda like the way you think, Columbia Records.
MS MR has released several singles over the past few months in preparation for their debut album Second Hand Rapture out May 14th in the U.S. on Columbia Records. The band has now premiered a cinematically rich video directed by Austin Peters for their song “Fantasy.” Although most of the action of the video takes place in conventional settings, such as a diner or on an average street, surreal occurrences define the mysterious nature of the film. Aurally, the track features thunderous explosions of percussion and is driven by the vocals of singer Lizzy Plapinger. MS MR will be in Austin for SXSW this year, and we’re looking forward to it.
