Austin’s Frank Smith has been one of the most significant local bands of the past few years. Comprised of excellent musicians, the band is one of Austin’s most convincing live acts and their albums have been solid works of rocked-up Americana. With their new single, Frank Smith relegates their twang to the corner of the room as their more forceful rock nature dominates the track, “Beaten Sacks of Death.” Though ominously named, the track feels anything but morose with it’s reverb soaked guitar thumps, unfurling electric riffs, and Aaron Sinclair’s smooth vocal delivery. Purportedly, much of the new record–Nineties, set for release on April 2nd–will embrace this style, which we think will be a very good thing. The band plays Wednesday, February 13th at Holy Mountain.
