Brazos, the brain child of creative force Martin Crane, has announced the release of sophomore effort Saltwater on the Dead Oceans imprint, a sister label to Jagjaguwar and Secretly Canadian. “How the Ranks Was Won,” is the album’s first single and video. Aurally, the song features a tight, pop structure and high pitched coos as Crane sings crisp, rhythmic lines. It’s a strong first cut that connotes promise for the forthcoming record. The accompanying video, created by Crane and friends, is a stop-motion animation and video montage that relays the narrative of the song, which is about someone who discovers the abandoned ghost ship in which their ancestors arrived in America and takes it back to its origin. We’re definitely digging the new track by Brazos, and you should stay tuned to Pop Press International for an exciting announcement about the band on Monday. Watch “How the Ranks Was Won” below.
