Small Black has announced their new album Limits of Desire, set for release on May 14, 2013 via Jagjaguwar. On the album’s first single “Free at Dawn,” delicate mix of synths and guitars played behind prominently mixes, but atmospherically breathy vocals. The song steadily builds from a static buzz to a soaring swell, embodying a sort of chaotic euphoria. According to a press release the album explores themes of desire, asking the questions: “How are our desires limited and how, in turn, are we limited by them?” Running through the song is a dark hopefulness that evokes paradoxical questions such as this as sings the songs refrain, “Free at dawn/ free at dawn.” Listen below via Soundcloud.
