FPSF Preview: A Place To Bury Strangers Discusses Desire to Fornicate with Texas

APTBS_at_Mohawk-13If you’re booking a festival, hell, if you’re booking a show anytime or anywhere, you should consider A Place to Bury Strangers. Few bands making music today come with a more talked about live performance. From destroying gear to blowing away audiences with aggressive, propulsive indie-rock, APTBS embody everything you love about rock ‘n’ roll. The group has been through Texas several times lately, playing the Austin Psych Fest kickoff party, last year’s Fun Fun Fun fest, and they’ll play Austin again on their way to the SOLD OUT FPSF, which commences this weekend. The band will headline FPSF’s Jupiter stage at 8:20 on Saturday night. It’s one you shouldn’t miss. We had an opportunity to exchange a quick Q & A with guitarist Oliver Ackermann about their outstanding live show, the moral dilemma he faces regarding his desire to fornicate with Texas, and APTBS’ upcoming record. Read that conversation below followed by streaming music from APTBS and the band’s full tour dates.

APTBS_at_Mohawk-10Pop Press International: You guys have been to Texas a ton in the past year. Do you love Texas as much as it loves you?

Oliver Ackermann: We love Texas so much I want to fuck it. But I love this girl a little bit more and I wouldn’t ever do anything to hurt her, so I’m sort of in a bind here… Any ideas?

PPI: Every time I see you guys, you absolutely kill it, whether it’s at a festival or in a small club. How do you keep your energy up for such powerful shows time and time again?

APTBS_at_Mohawk-6OA: We goof around a lot and don’t take ourselves so seriously so it keeps everything really fun. When it’s dumb and fun there is no problem doing it all the time. I always wanna do it.

PPI: Which bands are you looking forward to seeing at Free Press Summer festival?

OA: There are so many great bands it is gonna be rad. I’m just gonna run around and try to catch as many as I can.

PPI: What was the most fun part of recording the Dead Moon covers LP for Record Store day?

FFF_Day_3-06OA: It was awesome playing these songs that I have loved for so long. I love Dead Moon so it was really cool channeling the spirit of Dead Moon.

PPI: We understand you’re at work on recording a new record. What can you tell us about the upcoming album? How will it differ from what has come before?

OA: We have been working on it a lot and I still don’t know what direction we are going in. We’ve written a lot of songs and scrapped a lot of songs and are going to write a lot more. This album is going to be recorded mostly live and will have that crazy fucked up haphazard feeling of our live show.
