The Bobby Jealousy department has been abuzz with news over the holiday week and weekend. Before the band would later rock the 4th of July with a show at Museum of Human Achievement, Bobby Jealousy released four demos in anticipation of a forthcoming full-length album to be issued later in 2014. As always, there’s a certain amount of Debby Harry in frontwoman Sabrina Ellis’s vocals, but on these tracks she also taps into a smokier, sultry delivery to great effect. “Dream of Making Love” is the odd man out, and the final track “I Can’t Be the One” sounds the most like previous material. They all demonstrate everything we’ve come to know and love about Bobby Jealousy. You can stream all the tracks at the bottom of this article.
The group’s show at Museum of Human Achievement on Thursday night also exemplified the band’s assets, which include Ellis’s powerful stage presence. Dance moves and hair whipping were put to shame when Ellis took things up a notch by leaning into the audience and planting a long kiss right on the mouth of an unsuspecting concertgoer. Photographic proof pictured to the right. After BJ’s set, Whiskey Shivers performed a set of upbeat fiddle-playin’ and mood fitting Americana.
Last but not least, Bobby Jealousy is out on the road for the next few weeks. If you’re lucky enough to have them coming to a town near you, we highly recommend not missing this one.
