I loved Cass McCombs from the first time I heard him–on a mixed CD from a friend around the release of PREfection. McCombs possesses the ability to quietly and continually produce music of the highest echelon. His songs are like some half-remembered dream, delivered with poignancy, immediate yet receding into a fine mist. “There Can Be Only One” reflects this delicate and beautiful style of songwriting. Bass ambles easily as the not-quite-strummed guitar rings irregularly over grooving drums. “Who wants my heart?” McCombs questions before stating, “There can be only one,” with the simple power that defines his lyricism. His new album Big Wheel and Others will drop on October 15th on Domino. Stream the single below.
