Who can keep track of music festivals these days? It seems that on any weekend now, one can find a solid lineup for a festival somewhere. However, those that distinguish themselves by theme, genre, or locale always seem more special. One such example of the latter is the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music and Love, set for their 8th annual installment come September 12th in Marfa, TX. The event will not only include eclectic music, but also workshops, vendors, art installations and more.
The West Texas town of Marfa is an unexpected hub of creativity, excellent dining, music, and independent culture that blends with an indigenous population of working class families that dwell primarily outside of the town proper. Most importantly, the landscape of Marfa sprawls out as it stretches toward the Davis Mountains in a sparse but powerfully beautiful scene. The imposing natural force of Marfa’s high desert makes an excellent environment for thoughtful reflection, for art, and for music. I try to get to Marfa as many times as I can in a year, and Trans-Pecos gives us all a great excuse to make the trip.
The lineup for the festival this year will include a range of artists such as M. Ward, Margaret Cho, and Will Johnson, to name a few. The full lineup is below. Tickets are reasonably priced and are available by day or for the entire weekend along with camping (at the impeccably designed Liz Lambert property El Cosmico) for $140. Buy them here!
