I’ve always been fascinated by and appreciative of the interactions of musicians with fans in a way that transcends simply creating music. Certainly interviews can serve as one method of “getting to know” something about these mysterious voices that move us with powerful songs. However, many of us will recognize the mixtape as an artifact that carries significant emotional weight. Creating a mixtape for someone often has the effect of an immediate and lasting bond. In all the tracks and music I’ve listened and sorted through this week, the mixtape created by Doldrums has been one of the most purely pleasurable experiences. The mixtape, entitled Reality Lite was reportedly created while on tour and whittled down from six hours. Listen to the mix below as well as the single from Doldrums most recent album.
Lastly, Doldrums will soon embark on a National tour, which includes a performance at Stubb’s in Austin along with Sleigh Bells on October 27th. Tickets are available here.
