When Karen Black died last month, other than the actress’s storied career that featured roles in films such as Easy Rider and Five Easy Pieces, Cass McCombs was one of the first thoughts to cross my mind. I’ve been a long-time fan of McCombs, and his song “Dreams-Come-True-Girl,” which features Black, was one of my favorites from his excellent 2009 album Catacombs. A little over a month after Black’s death and on the heels of performing at a memorial event for the late actress, McCombs has released an outstanding new song featuring the singer and movie star. Black takes the spotlight on “Brighter!” — a song that will be featured on McCombs’s forthcoming album Big Wheel and Others, which will be released by Domino on October 15th. Stream “Brighter!” below. Dates for McCombs upcoming tour, which features a date at Austin venue The Belmont on November 22nd, are listed following the stream.
