Hear Music from Damien Jurado’s Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son

doc050.11298v2Damien Jurado’s new album Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son won’t drop until next year, January 21st to be specific, on Secretly Canadian. But there’s plenty to be actively anticipating about the album. Produced with Richard Swift, the record promises to be a sprawling labyrinth of sounds and styles built on Jurado’s haunting songwriting and voice. Jurado calls the album something of a sequel to his most recent and highly praised Maraqopa.

We’re not the only one who’s looking forward to the album, as Father John Misty (J. Tillman) has penned an essay that discusses Jurado’s particular affinity for creating whole new worlds with songcraft and imagery. As usual, Tillman’s rhetoric employs its own brand of surreal commentary and concludes with the line “Jesus is out of his goddamn mind, and I want to live in Damien’s America,” which sounds like one hell of an endorsement to me. Read the entire essay at SPIN here. Watch a video, directed and shot by Dan Huiting, about the creation of the album below.
