We’re back with our second edition of Weekly Rundown. It always takes a few rounds to figure out if you like a new idea or not. We liked the final product last week, and so we’re back for more. Weekly Rundown is your one stop for an album feature, recommendations for a local and touring show, and a track and video highlight for the week. It’s all right here. In this week’s edition we feature new music from Kurt Vile, tell you why you shouldn’t miss The Couch on Friday night, and share a creepy video from spacey rockers Besnard Lakes. Read on!

Last week we featured Crystal Antlers as the touring band to see. We promise that it won’t always be one of the myriad “crystal” bands, but this week, the show to see is Crystal Stilts. However, we have to tell you that what we love most about this show is that Lovely Bad Things will be one of the openers on the bill. When we saw them with Best Coast, they quickly became a band we’re very excited about. This mid-week show kind of snuck up on us, but it’s not to be missed! Music from the bands below.
ALBUM: Poliça – Shulamith
The album’s opening track and lead single “Chain My Name” is simply addictive. Although we haven’t given Shulamith it’s proper listening time and treatment yet, we’re expecting good things from the synthy pop that will undoubtedly comprise this bands sophomore record. This is your best bet for a solid album grab this week. Stream “Chain My Name” below.
TRACK: Kurt Vile – “Feel My Pain”
Following the release of his outstanding album Wakin’ On A Pretty Daze, Kurt Vile will release an EP, It’s A Big World Out There (And I Am Scared), with seven cuts that didn’t make the album. The first glimpse at those songs is “Feel My Pain” released yesterday in advance of the EP. The song is as strong as anything on the album and features intricate guitar work as it spreads out over six minutes long. This song is amazing.
We’re on a roll here with featured tracks, since both last week and this week, we brought you songs from artists that will be performing at Fun Fun Fun Fest. That’s right, Kurt Vile will be performing come the second weekend in November, and if you haven’t purchased your tickets for Fun Fun Fun yet, we propose you do so here. Listen to “Feel My Pain” below.
VIDEO: Besnard Lakes – “Color Yr Lights In” (NSFW)
Okay, this week’s video is completely creepy and terrifying. Shot in slow motion and directed by Montreal aritsts the Sanchez Brothers, the video depicts a man struggling with mental illness as he roams through the dark night of city, encountering prostitutes, breaking into a pool, and generally losing his grip. The lead is played by Martin Dubreuil, who does an amazing job of portraying a man on the brink with no words at all. His final, fading, maniacal smile as he shudders is imagery that will stick with you for days. The song is culled from the band’s excellent album Until In Excess Imperceptible UFO.
