Fun Fun Fun Fest Spotlight: Interview with Audacity

audacity_vidFun Fun Fun Fest’s Nites programming has become increasingly substantial over the years and this year will feature artists as notable as Twin Shadow as well as up and coming bands such as Southern California’s Audacity, who dropped their new album Butter Knife yesterday. The band will play at Beerland on Saturday, November 9th supporting The Last (with members of Descendents). Admission is free with your FFF wristband. Audacity recently corresponded with us by email to answer a few questions, which you can read below. Watch their brand new video for “Hole in the Sky” after the Q & A.

Pop Press International: Much of your band identity seems to be driven by the place you come from. Is that a product of the musical history or is it something else, something inherent in the locale?

We’re very proud of the great musical history in Southern California and Orange County in particular. We love Rikk Agnew and Jackson Browne and the Descendents but even if there was no rad music from the OC we would still love it and talk about it cause you gotta rep your hood!

PPI: Southern California certainly has punk rock history, but so do many other cities in America. What are some bands or scenes not from California that influenced your ideas about music?

We always felt a certain kind of kinship with bands from the Midwest , current bands like Holy Shit in Milwaukee, Terrible Twos in Detroit , and Treasure Fleet in Chicago. Also one of our favorite bands The Replacements are from Minneapolis, so there’s some kind of psychic connection between Southern California and the Midwest.

PPI: You’ve gotten to play with some bands that we really love lately—Lovely Bad Things, Hunters to name a couple—who are some of your favorite (and maybe under-appreciated) bands you’ve played with?

We love playing with our friends White Night; their new record is out on Recess Records and is our favorite. We played with a band in Kansas City called Lazy I enjoyed very much. Also Bad Antics, Captain Slookie, Lengus Largus from Tucson , Flesh Lights from Austin and many many more. There’s awesome bands all over!

PPI: Suicide Squeeze has a pretty awesome roster of current and past artists. What’s it like to work with them?

Suicide Squeeze is awesome to work with. We love hanging out and partying down in seattle with them. Also we’re big fans of all the stuff they’ve put out including an awesome new split with us and the Coathangers. Check it out!!

PPI: Fun Fun Fun Fest is pretty much the best festival in the country, but more importantly, it seems to cater to an audience more receptive to your music. How pumped are you for your Nites show with The Last with members of Descendents?

The Last is one of the greatest bands ever; La Explosion is a personal fave. I recently remarked to the lovely bad things that they remind me of The Last. We are super stoked for Fun Fun Fun!!
