The Black and White Years had a big first year, getting “discovered” by Jerry Harrison and being lauded categorically at the Austin Music Awards, including snagging the Best New Band Award. Then, the band seemed to plow through some difficult terrain in the years following, during which they self-released a sophomore album and an EP. You have to admire their tenacity and resilience. And it seems to have paid off. The band is currently releasing the best material of their career and has expanded to include front man Scott Butler’s wife Adrienne. The first new track to emerge from the collaboration was the echoing and atmospheric track “Just Like Old Times,” and now the band has dropped the first official single from their forthcoming LP Strange Figurines, out January 21st on Austin’s Modern Outsider label. “Little One” features heavy synths and is the kind of song that will make fans of MGMT and Neon Indian swoon. Listen to “Little One” below.
