Xiu Xiu Announces New Album, Shares “Stupid in the Dark”

PRC-274LP-DIGITALCOVERMost impressive about Xiu Xiu is Jamie Stewart’s complete commitment to his art. The most recent Xiu Xiu show I saw was sold out, but attention and attendance have waned over the decade I’ve been a fan. However, sold out or undersold, Stewart always demolishes the live set. Likewise, his albums continue to emerge impervious to trends within popular music. Xiu Xiu’s music explores the darkest corners of the human psyche and boldly addresses taboo subject matter. “Stupid in the Dark,” the first single from the band’s newly announced Angel Guts: Red Classroom, furthers that artistic endeavor with pulsing synths, a subtly melodic chorus, and digital distortion that surges across the song’s aural environment. The album drops February 4th on Polyvinyl, and we can’t wait. If you can’t either, you can preorder the album on limited edition red vinyl here. In related news, Xiu Xiu’s album of Nina Simone covers will be released on December 2nd. Stream “Stupid in the Dark” from Angel Guts: Red Classroom below.
