Tomorrow night, Juliana Barwick will bring her beautiful music to the Parish, and you should be there. Part of the trouble with trying to describe the transcendently beautiful quality of Juliana Barwick’s music results from the fact that the music itself so directly accesses mood and emotion. Barwick’s songs are as much like silk or spiderwebs or sunlight on a winter lake as much as they are like any other music. Barwick creates ghostly beautiful, abstract sound textures. Her new album Nepenthe was produced by Alex Somers, who has worked with lauded Icelandic group Sigur Rós. In an attempt to prevent repeating ourselves, you can read a bit about the album, it’s concepts and title here, and you can read some of our previous descriptions of Barwick’s music here. Below you can watch three videos from Barwick’s latest album. Get tickets for her show here. This will be beautiful, Austin; go.
