Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks has announced their debut album Enter the Slasher House, which will be released on Domino on April 8th. The band could almost be considered a supergroup, featuring not only Avey Tare but also Angel Deeradorian of Dirty Projectors and David Hyman of Ponytail and Dan Deacon. Considering the fiercely experimental sensibilities Tare’s project Animal Collective has explored over the years, the moniker Slasher Flicks may deter some before even hearing the music.
However, these tracks were originally composed on acoustic guitar, and the first single, “Little Fang,” possess an upbeat lightheartedness. The song does feature some bizarre, affected vocal tracks, but is mainly constructed on shiny synth work and playful beats that all but guarantee impromptu dance parties. There’s a touch of a Bowie influence and of Montreal fans will be utterly delighted.
