The ambitiousness of Borrisokane‘s Versus Project is evidenced by its inability to be communicated in a sentence or even an entire post. I’m bewildered by its breadth. Understanding its depth and greatness requires a little patient digging. Isn’t that how we all became music nerds anyway? The Versus Project will be a six-disc box set of EPs, each with four songs: a new song from Borrisokane and a new song from another band as well as those two bands trading cover songs of each others’ material. These covers are the gold that distinguishes this epic project. Side One Track One has already previewed the cover of Borrisokane’s “Elizabeth” by Pageantry. OVRLD has Knifight’s version of “Victoria, Please.” And the Versus Project’s own site you can stream Young Tongue performing “Sinking Catalina.”
Today, Pop Press International is proud to premiere Yum’s cover of Borrisokane’s “Indoor/Outdoor Paleontologist Blues,” which bears a title as long as the song is good and which you can stream at the end of this post. Yum whittled the original seven minute plus track to just under five and translated the electronic elements into wavering, reverb-tinged guitar notes that provide a backdrop to Samantha Skinner’s beautifully soft vocal track. The full roster of bands releasing material in the Versus Project will be: Major Major Major, Knifight, Yum, Pageantry, Young Tongue (formerly The Baker Family), Home by Hovercraft.
And you! You’re participating in the project, because an idea this grandiose, this splendid deserves your help, and Borrisokane needs it.
