Tele Novella has yet to release an album or even an EP, but they’re quickly becoming one of Austin’s most talked about bands. The group is currently out on tour and has just announced the release of a new 7″ for their song “Trouble in Paradise.” Tele Novella features members of Belaire, Voxtrot, and Agent Ribbons and functions as an assemblage of some of Austin’s best indie pop musicians culled from beloved groups over the years. Their early songs showcased excellent psych pop sensibilities, but “Trouble in Paradise” proves that the band also possessive impressive dexterity. The slinky, noirish, psych-pop song moves in a murkier direction with brooding melodies and minor key progressions. Held up against the band’s first few brighter tracks like “No Excalibur,” this new single reminds me of the divergent styles of the Zombies between songs such as “Friends of Mine” and “Beechwood Park.” In fact, Tele Novella reminds me a lot of the Zombies altogether, and I personally can’t thinking of a higher compliment. The band returns to Austin and celebrates the release of the new 7″ with a show at Cheer Up Charlies on April 5th. Listen to “Trouble in Paradise” below.
