The last time I saw Local Natives was at the Moody Theater for their Austin City Limits taping. It was the fourth time I had seen the band, and easily the best. The band has always impressed live with their high-energy live shows, but their set at ACL Live proved the band has become one of indie rock’s most cohesive outfits. Excellently structured arrangements integrate angular guitar riffs, atmospheric keys, and powerful vocal performances. Although a few highly priced VIP tickets remain, their show at Stubb’s tomorrow night is sold out. There’s always Craigslist or scalpers, and with a band this good, it just might be worth it.
Recently, the band, along with Father John Misty and Brandon Flowers, were featured in a short film about Johnny Cash, created by Blogothéque. Each of the bands talks about the importance of Cash before performing a cover, which all takes place in an expansive desert setting. The 16-minute film is minimalistic and intimate. Check it out below.
