I’ve seen Dana Falconberry dozens of times, and sung her praises just as many. However, I never get tired of watching her perform her haunting and gorgeous, forward-thinking folk music live. She and her band are utterly enchanting. And there’s always something special about talking to someone after they’ve seen Falconberry live for the first time. Such was the case for our newest writer Lukas Truckenbrod this past Friday. Although Truckenbrod was near speechless at the show, mumbling in awe about the band’s beautiful harmonies, I asked him to send over a single sentence about his experience, prompting him to write: “I was easily bought and sold Friday night when I saw Dana Falconberry for the first time as she and her band gave an exquisitely talented performance demonstrating each member’s unique offering.”
Likewise, I asked him to do the same for RF Shannon, wanting his take on a band we’ve been incredibly swayed by in recent months. Truckenbrod wrote, “RF Shannon continues to improve their desert night worship, stretching their warbled echoes into the deep indigo-painted landscape along the Texan horizon.” Truly, RF Shannon have an ability to elicit the shadowy poetry burning within each of us.
Devon Sproule opened the night with a beautiful and sparse set of earnest folk. Prior to the week of the show, I had been unfamiliar with her extensive repertoire of music. She has a number of acclaimed albums under her belt and has played all over the world. Fairly recently, she made the move to Austin, and this city is lucky to have such a voice.
