Marcus Rubio is a guy who’s been around Texas over the years and is currently wrapping up a stint in L.A., soon heading back to Austin. Yesterday, Rubio released Land of Disenfranchisement, out digitally and on cassette through Already Dead Tapes. the album consists of balance of sprawling understated experimental pop songs and breezy indie pop. Standout track “welcum 2 hell” features drumming by Cryptacize’s Chris Cohen and a buzzing guitar hook that recalls 70s punk pioneers Television. We’ve got the song on repeat over here and can’t wait for Rubio’s upcoming return to Austin and shows June 12th and July 9th at Lambert’s and Cheer Up Charlie’s respectively. Listen to “welcum 2 hell” below.
