Watch Amazing Snakeheads’ Raw New Video “Nighttime”

amphetamine-balladsElements of the occult must be swimming in the deep pools of our collective consciousness. Lately, they’re bubbling to the top. Similar to the motifs in HBO’s triumphant series True Detective, The Amazing Snakeheads’ new video for “Nighttime” draws on dark energy from the wellspring of Americana. Never mind that the band is Scottish. Directed by Gregor Johnston, the video is eerie enough to wake the dead. The song itself, which will be on the group’s debut album Amphetamine Ballads–out July 22nd on Domino Records, boldly opposes trends in indie rock; you won’t find any washed out guitars or atmospheric organs here. “Nighttime” is all grit and crunch with pounding rhythms and snarled lyrics. With sustained noir guitar notes and echoing background wails, the band sounds oddly like a bluesy version of early Pixies. “I don’t come alive till nighttime,” Dale Barclay growls. I believe it.
