I’ve been sitting on this news a while, as the band themselves weren’t totally sure what would happen to Tiger Waves. After all, the group managed to work their way into a great relationship with a division of a major label. We were huge fans of Tiger Waves, but sometimes situations cannot be controlled, and it seems safe to say now that Tiger Waves will be a band no longer. However, three of the primary members of that band have already amassed a number of tracks during the recent period of inactivity for Tiger Waves. The first glimpse at what those songs will sound like came this week in the form of four new tracks release by a newly formed band, Souther Boutique. The songs reflect some of the same carefully crafted, layered pop created by Tiger Waves. They’re far away, dreamy indie pop songs with flickers of folk and psych. “Growing Old” is something of a slow burner, eventually reaching a steadily paced climactic plateau. “Undercurrents” boasts a more even and consistent structure as it flows by in undulating, fluid waves just as its moniker would suggest. “Rabbit Trails” takes us down a rabbit hole with its psych-leaning, off-kilter production. The longest song, “Don’t Be Yourself (Cowboy Song Pt. 2)” sprawls out into experimental terrain with spooky production and meandering, disjointed layers. Hear all the songs below. No shows booked yet, so keep an eye out.
