Although Belle & Sebastian are decidedly the most known and celebrated indie pop or twee band to come out of Europe, those countries, particularly in Scandinavia, have a long history of these musical styles, created by bands like Camera Obscura, The Pastels, The Concretes, Acid House Kings, and The Field Mice on labels like Labrador and Sarah Records. Among those bands is Suburban Kids with Biblical Names, who has release some pop gems over the last decade, and whose member Johan Hedberg is preparing to release his first solo album. Paradiset (Swedish for “The Paradise”) will be out September 23rd via Labrador Records. “Kickar Grus” is the first track to emerge from the album and features upbeat pop sensibilities with an arrangement of saxophone, flute, and piano. You don’t need to speak Swedish to dance along to this one. If you’re a Belle & Sebastian, you’ll recognize the style, but Hedberg’s vocal timbre and penchant for background choirs gives the track a voice of its own. Stream “Kickar Grus” below.
