Jenn Ghetto has been doing somber pop for a over a decade now. I first became a fan of her work when she played in orchestral sad-rock band Carissa’s Wierd (yes, spelled that way). Since then, she’s recorded under the moniker S, and although her projects haven’t quite sailed into the upper echelon’s of acclaim and visibility in America’s independent rock communities, her name is well known in her native city of Seattle, where The Stranger recently called her a “Seattle treasure.” All of this makes me pretty excited that stalwart and categorically excellent Seattle label Hardly Art Records has signed S and announced the release of Ghetto’s fourth album Cool Choices, due out on September 23rd. The record was produced by Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla, and you can hear “Vampires,” the first single, which features galloping percussion and intricate guitars, below.
