The Versus Project is going to be amazing. And that’s not a hard claim to make, since several songs have been shared from the forthcoming six-disc, six-band collaborative box set both on this site and others. All of the songs have been outstanding and showcase some of Austin’s finest bands. We gave a pretty thorough rundown of what the project includes in an earlier post that ran during its Kickstarter phase.
Today, we’re honored to present a track from Young Tongue. Since the band changed their name from The Baker Family, they’ve forayed into more percussive, angular, and driving song structures. We’ve been rocking their debut track “Cat Calls” for several months; their contribution of new material to The Versus Project, “Matriarch,” features a similarly ambitious and multi-textured arrangement, full of metallic clanging, post-punky guitar spasms, and abrupt shifts. Listen below.
