Five Shows to See If You’re Skipping ACL

So you’re skipping ACL? We don’t blame you. Sure we’ll be out there, and we like supporting this hometown festival, even if it has grown to epic, almost repulsive proportions. There’s still something to love about a weekend at Zilker Park watching bands. If you’re opting out this here, here are five ways to have just as much fun over the next few days.

1. Jenny Lewis tonight, October 3rd, at Stubb’s

I can’t believe tickets are still available for this. Maybe it’s just because she’s playing the fest, she had the taping, and she’ll play a nearby hill country show around her two weekends at ACL Fest. Whatever the reason, this will sell out at some point before or after doors open tonight. Lewis is said to have absolutely killed it at her ACL taping, so what are you waiting for? Tickets available here.

2. Ditch the Fest at Empire Control Room all day Saturday, October 4th.

We ran an extensive preview of this right here; this event is the place to be for the weekend. Intimate musical performances by an incredible bill of bands put on by an awesome local arts and music collective. And it’s only $5. Come on, music lovers, let’s do this! Read more about it here.

3. Childish Gambino at ACL Live, Saturday night, October 4th.

Yet another show that seems astounding to have tickets still available. It looks like floor tickets finally sold out yesterday, but there are still some excellent balcony and mezzanine spots. There’s not a bad seat in the house at Moody Theater, and we can attest that Childish Gambino puts on an amazing show. Get tickets here.

4. Tune-Yards with Mø at Emo’s, Sunday, October 5th

Visually stunning and aurally arresting, both of these bands will put on a great show. At $20, it’s not as expensive as some of the bigger official ACL Late Night shows, but offers just as much to be psyched about. Get your tickets here.

5. Belle & Sebastian at Ramesh DJ Set at Cheer Up Charlie’s along with Vagina Zine release party features Chambers, Soko, Bells & Parks and more. This bill is so awesome and it’s a cool opportunity to see local indie pop hero Ramesh (of Voxtrot) hanging out with international indie pop heroes Belle & Sebastian. Plus it’ll be cheap as hell and at local favorite Cheer Up Charlies. Go to there. More info here.
