Live Review: A. Sinclair Celebrates New Vinyl at Mohawk

A_Sinclair_103014-1A. Sinclair rocks. And by that I mean that Aaron Sinclair has always rocked. He rocked when his band was called Frank Smith, and he rocks now. It helps that Sinclair is backed by a talented cast of musicians: Mike Booher and Benjamin Lance on guitars, Jud Johnson on drums, and Brendan Bond on bass–all of whom have played in a slew of notable projects. Over the years, the band has moved from Americana cut with indie-rock to indie-rock cut with Americana, but the songs have always been great. They’re good recorded, but they sound even better live. There’s something about the group’s deadpan delivery and no frills approach to rock ‘n’ roll that feels right watching onstage.

A_Sinclair_103014-4All of these are excellent reasons that I was psyched to hear that A. Sinclair has signed to Dangerbird Records and has re-issued their most recent album Pretty Girls on vinyl. Two facts they celebrated with a show at Mohawk last Thursday. It’s great news for the band as well as for the undoubtedly wider audience who now has the opportunity to hear songs we’ve been acclaiming for a couple years now.  If you’re still unfamiliar, what better time than right now to head over to their Bandcamp page and stream a few tracks. Below you can peruse our gallery of photos from the show last week.
