Track Premiere: Francine Thirteen – “Queen Mary”

Skittering percussive clicks, periodic echoing handclap effects, and the occasional pulsing beat comprise the minimalistic soundscape on Francine Thirteen’s newest track, “Queen Mary.” Over these sounds, Francine sings in a high yet brooding and ominous tone. Utterly modern, the song still manages to feel soulful and mystical, accomplishing an impressive fusion of styles. The track was engineered and recorded by Bradley Will. “Queen Mary” will appear on an upcoming EP entitled 4 Marys and The King, which is set for release later this year. Francine regards the project as a “mysterious, rhythmic, dystopian album.” She also tells us that the EP drew inspiration from the Nina Simone song, “Four Women” and the Octavia Butler novel, Parable of the Talents. Francine Thirteen represents a bold new voice in Austin music, and we’re proud to premiere the track for you today. Stream it below.
