Misra Records represents just one of the many hard-working, under appreciated independent music labels toiling away to bring outstanding music to a small but attentive fraction of the world. The label has released music from lauded names such as Phosphorescent, Shearwater, and Holopaw (a band that features Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock). Almost a decade ago, Misra released material from a band called Southeast Engine, who had been recommended to the label by revered band The Wrens. Around that same time, Southeast Engine member Adam Torres self-released a record of haunting folk songs called Nostra Nova. The unassuming album eventually amassed an incredibly devoted following. These songs resonate with a subdued power, like a warm, steady wind. The sort of invisible yet inimitable force that shapes canyons. Misra has plans to reissue the underground classic on April 7th. Below, stream a video for the track “Breakneck Jane’s Fifteen Minute Escape” from Nostra Nova; pre-order the record here.
