Wednesday night at Stubb’s saw a solid lineup of acts with a variety of origins for NPR’s SXSW Showcase. The night began with Long Beach rapper Boogie, followed by Shamir Bailey of Las Vegas and Australian rocker Courtney Barnett. As Barnett strummed out her grungiest hits for an adoring audience, one can only imagine that Stromae, set to play next, was backstage stretching out both his muscles and vocal chords in preparation for the dance fest to come. After the resilient Belgium pop star wound himself back up, Brooklyn-based indie rock band TV On The Radio took the stage as headliners. Anthem after anthem of new and old, the foursome kept the crowd grooving well into Thursday morning, riding in on clouds of creative, experimental rock and barbecue smoke.
