I caught Girlpool at this year’s Fader Fort during SXSW and was convinced by the duo’s plodding, simple, pop that blends elements of late 90’s punk with the aesthetic of lo-fi acoustic pop. “Cherry Picking,” the band’s new song exemplifies their bedroom pop style as both Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad contribute vocal parts over steady bass and guitar. This is no frills rock that falls somewhere between The Moldy Peaches and Waxahatchee. Listen to “Cherry Picking” below and watch for the LP, Before the World Was Big, out June 2nd on Wichita.
