Shearwater Launches World Tour at North Door Wednesday February 3rd

Shearwater Artist PhotoFor more than a decade now, Shearwater has been a band dear to my heart. I moved to Austin near their origin and had the privilege of watching them evolve into one of the best bands creating music, delivering a string of phenomenal albums despite lineup changes and unexpected label switches. Their new album continues to develop a new sound the band has explored since the end of the incredible “Island Arc” — a trilogy of outstanding records. This Wednesday, the band will launch their world tour in support of their new album, Jet Plane and Oxbow. Two shorter U.S. legs will be interrupted by a jaunt across Europe, during which rising stars Cross Record will support.

My feelings on Austin’s music scene can fluctuate quickly; it’s a gift to live in a town so rife with music, and often we take that for granted. In the face of all my hangups about the monster of a music industry that rages daily in the Capital City, getting to call Shearwater a hometown band is among the greatest pleasures. Local indie pop heroes Marmalakes open. Don’t miss this one. Get tickets RIGHT HERE, and check out videos from both bands below, as well as a track from Euro-tour mates Cross Record. Full tour dates follow the embeds.
