Dig Two New Tracks from Genuine Leather

Genuine_Leather-1If you, like me, expect a band called Genuine Leather to be a punk band or maybe a dark alt-rock band, you’d be wrong. Maybe country is your second guess — you know, saddles, reins, boots, things of that nature. Wrong again. No, Genuine Leather is a group of pop purveyors who may lean toward psych and garage on occasion, but said simply, they make attractive little indie pop gems. The two new songs they just posted to Soundcloud are no exception, and they further evidence something that makes Genuine Leather worth your time. Every song is an idea — like this little nugget of creativity. The band’s songs can differ wildly but still feel connected. “Jeffrey’s Jazz,” the first of the two tracks is buzzing video game-pop with scale-climbing synths and clever shifts. “Ray Has to Die Today” takes a completely different tone, wandering through country-tinged pop over slurred vocals. Genuine Leather seems like a band constantly asking, “What if…?” We’re excited to see what’s next. Stream “Jeffrey’s Jazz” and “Ray Has to Die Today” below.
