The Pacific Northwest continues to produce noteworthy and compelling music. Portland-based band Radiation City’s newest effort, Synesthetica, out now on Polyvinyl, offers another prime example in support of that assertion. The band’s last album, Animals in the Median, proved their prowess at creating infectious pop gems. Synesthetica showcases the group’s development, as these arrangements shift between textures soundscapes to create intricate, layered pop. Merging 50 pop, 70’s soul, and contemporary electronic dream pop, Radiation City forges an incredible convergence of sound and style. Filled with nuance and restraint, Synesthetica‘s rich songs warrant and reward repeat listens. Rad City does an excellent job of translating these songs for live shows, and you’ll have an opportunity to see them tomorrow at Sidewinder. Get your tickets here, and stream “Juicy” from Synesthetica below. Deep Sea Diver, who also have a new album, Secrets, out now, open the show; you can stream the band’s song “Notice Me” below.
