Someone recently quipped that one benefit of a Donald Trump presidency is the massive volume of punk songs sure to erupt from such a catastrophe. Austin punk mainstays OBN III’s perspective: why wait? The band is currently streaming two new songs from a new 7-inch, which will see physical release via label 12xu come May 20th. The A-side, “Rich Old White Men,” offers blistering punk and excellent second guitar lines that shift throughout to reach whining solo in the latter half of the brief two-and-a-half minute song. “We’re on the verge of collapse and nobody gives a goddamn,” singer Orville Bateman Neeley insists on B-side, “Verge of Collapse.” Sprawling and caustic, it contains the hallmark vitriol of great punk. Let’s hope the threat of a Donald Trump presidency is enough to give us more songs like this without having to endure a term with Drumpf.
