Is there a more time-honored underground music tradition than the comp? Compilations have of course been utilized to collect music of all kinds, but underground, indie, and punk labels and artists seem to possess a particular affinity for the format. Austin Town Hall Records‘ Nathan Lankford and Big Bill frontman Eric Braden have teamed up to curate Slack Capital, an assemblage of tracks from some of Austin’s best punk and underground bands including Annabelle Chairlegs, Daniel Francis Doyle, Sailor Poon, Party Plants, Cross Record, Summer Salt, and the Zoltars, among many others. The comp will receive a proper welcome into the world with a release party tonight at Barracuda featuring performances by many of the bands on the record, including Big Bill, Annabelle Chairlegs, Basketball Shorts, ¿Que Pasa?, Sailor Poon, Pollen Rx, Pataphysics, and Critical Dad, along with a special appearance by David Liebe Hart. You can get tickets for just $8, and it comes with a CD of the comp! A hell of a deal. You can stream the whole dang comp below to get pumped for tonight’s show.
