Stalwart indie label Fat Possum has announced the signing of songwriter Adam Torres, who joins a roster that also includes acts such as Modest Mouse, Yuck, and Andrew Bird, among others. The label promises a new album from the songwriter sometime later this year. Torres’ first collection of songs was self-released in 2006 when he was living in Athens, OH. Over a decade’s time, love for the album grew until it was eventually reissued by Misra last year. An album not only surviving but thriving by word of mouth alone is a testament to Torres’ incredible talents as a musician. His recent live shows display an astonishing evolution of his craft, and if they are an indicator of what’s to come later this year via Fat Possum, we are all destined for a rare gift. Several cities in America have an opportunity to see Torres’ transfixing live show on a brief stint of dates that includes a stop at Nelsonville Music Festival near Torres’ old haunt of Athens.
